About Me

I'm a writer, photographer, and father, but not necessarily in that order. I spent 15 years in the tech industry, eight of them in a sales engineering capacity. This means that apart from designing enterprise-class IT solutions for multimillion dollar companies, I also had to explain the technology to C-level executives in non-technical and relatable ways. Writing about tech is my niche, though I have experience and expertise in a variety of topics.

Maybe I'm Just Too Demanding: When Restaurants Review Their Customers

Online review sites like Yelp have empowered consumers like never before, in terms of finding a place to eat and saying what they really think. But restaurant owners can use this to their advantage.

Sidekick to All the Light We Cannot See

Link to Amazon showing one of the 4 "sidekicks" of literary analysis I wrote for the company We Love Novels. I'm particularly proud of this one, mainly because it was the one book they asked me to read that was actually literature.

Photographer Documents His Beloved Wife's Heartbreaking Battle With Cancer

This one got real, fast. Writing for a photography oriented website, I found this topic in my queue. This wasn't too long after I lost my father to cancer, and I just didn't have the heart to prattle on about photography. I'm pleased with the result.

Experience

Freelance Writer

Expert wordsmith for hire, offering fixed price and hourly rates for writing projects large and small. Punctuation included at no extra charge. I can write about almost anything, and my natural curiosity makes me an excellent/thorough researcher. In the past few years, I've worked on a seriously diverse set of projects: * My IT/corporate background makes it possible for me to write about all software and hardware related topics. I've written app reviews, cloud computing guides, big data strategies—everything I swore I'd never do again. Every time I try to get out, they keep PULLING ME BACK IN! That said, I excel at communicating these topics in ways that are interesting and accessible for the non-technical. I'm currently the Content King for kounta.com, and have written for merchantmaverick.com, and eprofits.com in the past. * I was thrilled to be published by The Atlantic with a personal essay about a modern pitfall of parenting. I was even more ecstatic when a bunch of self-righteous know-it-alls lectured me over Twitter. And I was amused when my piece was written about for WNYC's "On the Media" microsite and published without any fact checking. * I love books. So I was pretty excited to take a gig in 2014 with the company "We Love Books" as a Literary Analyst. Getting paid to read, and then write about reading, was kind of a dream come true. My reader's guide to the National Book Award winning "All the Light We Cannot See" is something I'm particularly proud of. My guide to a Jack Reacher novel? Not so much. * I have 30 years of experience with photography, and some of my favorite gigs have been writing about the subject from both a technical and artistic perspective, for websites like picturecorrect.com and cameralends.com. * I've also ghostwritten books for others, which means I can't tell you who my clients were or what I did for them. You'll just have to trust me that I did it, and my clients were happy.

Company: Self Employed

I worked there from 6/2013 until now

Sales System Engineer

In 2001, I started with Regan Technologies as their one and only SSE. In 2005, I moved to a larger company called Consonus Technologies doing the same thing for more money and with much nicer people. Chief responsibilities included pre-sales engineering of hardware/software solutions (servers, storage, backup, disaster recovery, tc.), answering questions the sales force couldn't, and occasionally wearing a tie.

Company: Regan Technologies / Consonus Technologies

I worked there from 7/2001 until 7/2009

System / Network Administrator

Again, these are two different companies for whom I did essentially the same thing. Network installation and support, desktop installation and support, turning it off and then turning it back on again, generally speaking in a disdainful manner to people who didn't understand what I did.

Company: ATTI / University Hospital

I worked there from 2/1996 until 6/2001
